Not Mayberry

Can a shy, retiring teacher from the big city find true happiness in the small town of Wilkesboro NC, which even the locals call "Moonshine Capital of the World."

A kitty so mean ...

... that he had to be called Sparta. Not exclusively for Máeráed or little Mr Miggs this is for all cat lovers (and haters) out there.

My old neighborhood! Back in one of my hometowns ....

... which would be the Hill area of DC, the Nation's Capitol. Carmen found this video - I don't watch fashion videos. I wasn't interested in the fashionistas but in the background. It is a street that I have spent a LOT of time on since it is right across the street from the Library of Congress. When I was working on my MA thesis back in '74 I drove in from the farm and found a parking space right in front of one of these restaurants and watering holes you see. Every 2 hours of working in the reading room I would come out and feed the meter.

Now my best friend Sherrod lives right around the corner and I can't remember the number of times I have stayed at their townhouse. On the end of the block is the infamous Tune Inn, right nextdoor the Hawk and Dove which you can see. It is a favorite hangout for Capitol Hill youngsters in Congress.

I am very fond of the place and really do think of the area as my hometown. It is only about an hours drive or less from my real hometown, Hamilton, and the place where I was born, Leesburg (former and very temporary capitol of the USA back in the War of 1812).

Another one for Máeráed ...

... who has just returned from the wilds of New England and Boston. This one is called 'Machu Pichu Post'. Has kind of a Quechuan theme going.

Also stars Ralph the Wonder Llama.

Little Mister Miggs might enjoy it too. Now that I think of it, the little boy reminds me of him. Same sense of fun. Same ability to cover vast amounts of territory in an instant.

I still miss Minnesota ...

... my second home state. I am happy living in North Carolina, it's certainly better than South Carolina, but I loved living in Minnesota. Here is a little article I read today that brought it all back to me.

"Stand by Me" ...

... the prettiest song you never heard in Farsi.
